Overview

Experience some of Alaska’s best winter activities such as a scenic drive along Turnagain Arm with a guided tour from Anchorage as well as an aurora viewing tour from Fairbanks. Connect these 2 locations with a train journey on the Alaska Railroad.

Itinerary

Day 1

Anchorage Arrival

Upon arrival transfer to your hotel on own. The rest of the day is to rest or relax in this northern town. Overnight Anchorage Downtown, Quality Suites Historic Downtown or Westmark Anchorage or similar (2 nights).

Day 2

Scenic Sightseeing / Turnagain Arm Tour:

Today travel south from Anchorage along the scenic Turnagain Arm to the mountain community of Girdwood. A professional tour guide will tell you and your fellow travelers all about the area and share personal knowledge of Alaska on the way to Mt. Alyeska. Take the Aerial Tramway up to the mountain top viewing deck which provides breath-taking panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and hanging glaciers. Before heading back to Anchorage, visit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving Alaska's wildlife. In the evening enjoy free time on your own.

Day 3

Anchorage to Fairbanks

In the morning transfer to the Anchorage train station on own. Board the famous Alaska Railroad in the morning and travel through Alaska's beautiful winter landscape to Fairbanks. During the train ride, enjoy spectacular views of the Alaska Range and possibly even Denali (weather permitting). You will arrive in Fairbanks in the evening and transfer to the hotel via hotel courtesy shuttle. Overnight in Fairbanks, SpringHill Suites Fairbanks or similar (2 nights).

Day 4

Fairbanks Sightseeing and Northern Lights Viewing

This morning, depart on a half day sightseeing of Fairbanks. Your tour includes a visit to the University of Alaska Museum. Here you will marvel at the natural and cultural history of Alaska. Also, you'll discover the science behind the Northern Lights. Other stops include Alaska Oil Pipeline viewing station, Fairbanks Visitors Center, and the Alaskan Bowl Company. You'll also depart Fairbanks and drive to the town of North Pole and the world-famous Santa Claus House. (Santa Claus House may be closed on weekdays; if it is, you will be able to take pictures from outside and may be able to meet Santa's reindeer team.) In the evening, at approx. 22:00H, a 30 to 45-minute drive will take you outside of Fairbanks to an Aurora Borealis lodge, away from the city lights for best viewing of the Northern Lights. Tour time is approx. 4.5-5 hours total, including transfer time. You will return to you to your hotel at around 2:30-3:00H.

Day 5

Day 5: Fairbanks - Departure

This morning transfer to the airport on own or start additional program.
